Artist's Comments

This was the sunrise 25th April, Anzac Day, Newcastle Australia

The lighthouse is Nobby's Point, and is at the Southern Entrance of our harbour :D

ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps, Anzac day is our rememberence day for all those who sacrificed, and for all the lives lost in war.
It's held on the anniversary of our first battle as Australian forces and under our own flag. Being a country of the brittish commonwealth we had fought before but it was as a part of the british army under their flag. Also being a country of the commonwealth when Britian declared war in 1914, we had no choice but to join them, but it was as our own force, but obviously under their control.
Until that time we didnt have an army and it was made up by enlisted volounteers.
The actual battle was to land and take control of the Gallipoli (Turkey) peninsula, which would give the allies very important control of shipping channels. The Brits knew it was going to be a tough battle with heavy resistence, so they used ANZAC forces who were seen to be more "expendable" than the superior trained british soldiers. We were used as canon fodder to put it blankly.
The ANZACs landed on the beaches at dawn (thus dawn services in rememberence)under the cover of darkness and as expected, they were met by massive turkish defence, there was heavy losses on both sides. To make matters worse, British officers got the landing point wrong and instead of landing on flat beaches, they landed on beaches with hills in front of them, making it so difficult as the turkish defence sat high above them with great advantage. Even after Australian landing scouts came back to brittish officers with a much easier route around, the Brits wouldnt admit their mistake and ordered the attack to continue as is.
Despite all of the odds being against them, the ANZAC volounteer armies showed great "courage, endurance, initiative, and discipline and unexpectantly fought back the turkish defence.

Message from King George V to our Prime Minister was "I heartily congratulate you upon the splendid conduct and bravery displayed by the Australian troops in the operations at the Dardanelles, who have indeed proved themselves worthy sons of the Empire." <---- I find that really ironic that we had to prove ourselves

For all those who sacrificed, fought and died fighting for my freedom ... lest we forget

Thank you also for asking what Anzac is because i meant to do a bit of a write up in the artists comments, i'll do it now.

I'm having lunch at a bakery/cafe the other day with a frnd and she puts down the sausage roll she was eating and says "do you want that" .. i said "why" .. she says "it tastes like shit" .. I'm like "yeah sure, i really LIKE the taste of shit
:iconmc-blue:
Thank you Matt. It may sound silly but I am really interested in it. I made a copy of your writing and I´ll read it very properly :-)

awww thank you so much Maria, it was a really b'tiful morning.

lol about your lake, we have a pretty big lake as well, and it's not smelly all over, but it is particularly smelly at a place where 2 major roads meet at a T intersection ... the intersection is only known as "Stinky Corner" haha not by either of the road names. It's really funny if you are trying to describe to someone where something is around there it's like "you know just up from stinky corner" ... "ohhhh yeah i know now"
